The Professorship in Ethnology is located at the Department of History and Ethnology (Hela) within the Faculty of Humanities. Hela’s mission is to produce high-quality and valuable knowledge through research, as well as to train future global experts who will contribute to the knowledge of national and international phenomena, cultures, and cultural interactions in different periods.
The foundation of education in Hela is research-based teaching that provides each student with a broad-based core of basic research knowledge and skills. The major subjects in the department are ethnology, general history, Finnish history and economic history. Each of the four disciplines offers postgraduate studies. The department has around 500 master level students and 80 doctoral students.
